SEIZE THE DAY; MAKE TODAY BETTER THAN THE DAY BEFORE.
The Daily Diary is a powerful tool designed to optimise the effectiveness of each day, and every day that follows it. It will help you allocate your time to what matters most. As you encounter failures, it will help you prevent repeating the same mistakes again. It can help you achieve a higher state of awareness, provide a sense of motivation, and fulfilment.
Over some time, your capacity will increase, more substantial
progress will be made, and you will feel less stress.
This tool serves two primary functions: scheduling your day for optimal efficiency and facilitating reflection to align actions with intentions.
What to do:
❶ Use the template.
❷ In the “Plan” column on the left side of the diary, outline your day’s schedule, starting from when you intend to wake up and including key events and activities. Ensure you allocate time for personal growth endeavours.
❸ Identify the top five tasks for the day under the designated section. These tasks should align with your overarching goals and serve as focal points throughout the day. It’s a good idea to set at least one long-term priority each day. Refer back to this list to stay on track if you encounter distractions or uncertainty.
❹ At the end of each day, allocate 10-15 minutes for reflection. Use the “Reflections” column to document what actually transpired that day, comparing it with your initial plans. You may document what went well, and what didn’t, how you felt or an “aha!” moment that popped up throughout the day. You may find it is difficult to remember details at the end of the day so making notes in the moment may assist your ability to reflect and discover an opportunity for improvement. Evaluate your scheduling clarity, task selection, and follow-through on commitments.
Ask yourself:
❺ Below the reflection section, record additional insights, positive observations, areas for improvement, and any questions you may have for a supervisor, coach or mentor. Writing down your thoughts enhances clarity and facilitates growth.
❻ Following your reflection, prepare your schedule for the next day, incorporating lessons learned from the day’s experiences by implementing updates to processes, implementing a countermeasure, or modifying the template to make it your own. Adjust your priorities to better align with your goals, ensuring continual progress towards your objectives.
