Career Journey Canvas

Coaching and mentoring

TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR PROFESSIONAL GROWTH.

Like a bow and arrow, you need to go backward and take a moment to aim in order to hit your target. The Career Journey Canvas provides a framework to reflect on and document the highs and lows of your journey so far. It also helps you understand where you are, where you want to go, and how to get there. The tool can be used independently or alongside coaching or mentoring.

We came across an Employee Growth Plan template in Miro that inspired our Career Journey Canvas and many of the boards within it. You can choose the boards, or tools, that feel most relevant to you and create your own canvas.

What to do:

My Goals Board: This board helps mentees establish clear, specific, and achievable goals. It provides a visual representation of their objectives, making it easier to track progress and stay focused on what needs to be accomplished.

64-Chart: The 64-Chart provides a structured framework for breaking down goals into smaller, actionable steps. This helps mentees prioritize tasks, set deadlines, and effectively manage their time and resources.

Individual AHA Board: Similar to the group AHA Board, this board serves as a platform for mentees to share insights and revelations that have positively impacted their approach to projects or life in general.

❹  My Journey: Start by documenting your recent key achievements and milestones including some of those from your past based on memory and archived information. It can help provide more clarity in direction and future goals by reflecting on the path you have taken to get here.

Learning Plan: Let mentees work on their list of books, certificates, and courses they are interested in, so it will give them access to a curated list of resources to support their skill development and knowledge acquisition.

Skills Matrix: The skills matrix allows mentees to assess their current and desired skills and identify areas for growth and improvement. It provides a holistic view of their strengths and weaknesses, enabling them to develop targeted development plans.

Feelings Board: The feelings board provides a space for mentees to reflect on their emotions and experiences throughout the mentoring process. It encourages self-awareness and emotional intelligence, helping mentees understand how their feelings impact their behavior, morale, and decisions.

Reflection Board: The reflection board allows mentees to reflect on their progress, challenges, and successes. It encourages introspection and critical thinking, facilitating continuous learning and improvement. Reflections might just be used to heighten awareness or spark micro innovation through continuous improvements in the form of MOSIs or Countermeasures.

Times When I Was Great and Times When I Wasn’t: This board provides an opportunity for mentees to celebrate their achievements and learn from their mistakes. It fosters a growth mindset by encouraging resilience and perseverance in the face of setbacks.
