How to choose your next job

I’ve only had two jobs in my life. The first was a summer job working in the family business. The next 30 years to follow have been as a self-employed entrepreneur. I hadn’t given it much thought until now, but if I could do it all again, I might do things a little differently.
When I imagined places I might work in my life, as a job or as clients to pursue, it was always based on the company and brand, not the individuals I could learn from.
When I think back on the past three decades of my career and think about who my favourite clients are, the ones that stick out to me all had one thing in common: they were wonderful people who pushed us to be our best. We learned just by working together and collaborating.
If I could go into a time machine, I would go back to the days I was in college and find mentors, work experience, and at least a few jobs that would allow me to follow my passion but enable me to learn what works and what doesn’t, and most important of all push me to grow.
If you are job hunting, learn about the people you would work with and how much personal growth the individuals will provide to you, not how great a company name will look on a future resume.
The most valuable resource is time. Think about how you want to spend your time and value the time others are willing to share with you.
